What Is Google Base?

Whats is Google Base

Many people have not realised the full power of Google Base yet, mainly because they don't understand or know what it is.
http://base.google.com/base/

Google base at the moment is still in test mode (Beta), it covers most parts of modern day life and the internet. You are be able to search for Products, Housing, Vehicles, Events, Jobs, Recipes, Reviews, Vacations, Rentals are the types they are advertising listing at the moment.

This is a way for Google to make the next move in dominating the entire Internet, and fortunately for us, it is free for people to search/use and us as webmasters to upload into.

The whole system is just a huge comparison system that allows you to add all your products to the relevant sections, to be searched and found by people using Google.

To show how HUGE Google Base is at the time of writing this page in March 2009, there is

- 97,852,295 Products - Just short of 100 million (when there are only 8 million** on ebay or 12 times less)
- 2,474,201 Housing/properties - two and a half million (Rightmove has less than a million*)
- 347,177 Vehicles (There is only 311,202 on UK Auto Trader)

and it hasn't even been launched from test mode yet.
Imagine how big it will be in 3yrs time!!!

At the moment from the drop down list at the top of your Google page is "Shopping", this is Google Base Products, I would imagine (even though it hasn't been released yet, that there will the others following in that list.

When you click on the "Shopping" link, it looks like this

At the moment, the official Product search actually looks like this

* Rightmove advertise in their meta data, so it shows in Google search results
"Find property for sale. Search over 900000 properties for sale from the top estate agents and developers in the UK - Rightmove."

** 8,877,627 is the number I calculated by visiting the all categories page in Ebay and adding all the categories up on a calculator.
